September 5, 2012

Dr. Delfin O Magpantay
University President
Bataan Peninsula State University

Dear Sir,

The plant tour and inspection held last August 30 was started in visiting the Department of National Defense Arsenal in Lamao Limay , Bataan at exactly 9:20am. Major General Jonathan C.Martir the Arsenal director held orientation about the history of the plant and the manufacturing of bullets and ammunitions. The director said there is a hiring of engineers this year because they plan for expansion in 2014 .After that, about 10am we visit the Case and Bullet division and also the Cartridge division.

At about 2pm we arrived in Philippine Resins Industries Incorporated (PRII) Located in Batangas Dos Mariveles ,Bataan. The present shareholder of Resin industries are Tosoh Corporation, a Japanese Company and Mitsubishi Corporation. Ms. Irma A. Gibe the AM-HRAD welcomes us and introduce the speaker Ms. Mary Rose Castro the technical support and tour guide. Ms. Castro discussed the Polyvinylchroride (PVC) production process. The PVC resin their product plus additives is used to manufactured door, window frame, chairs, pipes , roofs, and many others that made of plastic. Some of our graduates work here as mechanical technician and field engineer.

The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) in Morong , Bataan was our last field trip  in August 31. At about 9:00am we are there and Mrs. Cora O. Baluyot the Environmental Management Specialist, shortly brief us about fuel (Uranium) by means of fission it creates heat and produced power. The electric bill is much cheaper in Bataan if we have Nuclear Plant compared to other renewable energy. The Plant is a project of ex-President Ferdinand Marcos built in 1984 and completed in 1986.Because of some accidents happen like in  Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine that occurred on April 26, 1986, an explosion and fired released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere and also because of the change of administration of Aquino government the plant was not operated and for now it serves for educational purposes.

Attached in this letter are the pictures taken in Plant Site. The tour helps us to really understand the plant operation and exposed to different equipment and machinery.

Thank you for your usual support to Mechanical Engineering Department and God Bless.

Sincerely Yours,

Engr. Emerson M. Navarro
