Dear Mr. Smith:

Thank you very much for your order of April 25.

When we hear from a new friend like yourself, somehow we feel like meeting him personally and shaking hands, because we know he is going to like our goods and service so much he will likely be with us for a long time.

The credit department being in my care, I am happy to tell you we have on our books thousands of customers like yourself – folks who have enjoyed charge accounts with us for years.

In opening one for you, I want to arrange my records so that you will get specially prompt and satisfactory service always.  And you can help me a little in this.  Just let me have the name of a merchant you are now favoring with your patronage on a credit basis, or please referring to some customer of ours whom you may know.  We won’t mention what kind of goods you are buying and the letterhead we will use won’t reveal it.

I feel sure you have not the slightest objection to doing this, as you know almost everybody nowadays buys more or less on credit (myself included), and all of us find that the easiest way to introduce ourselves is simply through some responsible person who knows we are all right.

Mail me this bit of private information today and you may be sure I will always take great pleasure in seeing that your shipments go forward promptly on the day we receive your welcome instructions.

Sincerely yours,

Edna Carandang
